Manuscript of Creation

This film was originally conceived as part of a residency day during the Leith Festival in 2018, and later developed. We shot it on location in Hillside Crescent and Henderson Street in Edinburgh.

“Paolozzi’s work has always fascinated me since I was a child, and I wanted to make something that really showcased the huge tactility, imagination and scope of his work. This film features The Manuscript of Monte Cassino (1991), but the ambition is to make several unique films about his works around Edinburgh through collaboration with different artists.“ This film was produced by Ray Bird in collaboration with dancer Simona Pisano. Shot on location in Edinburgh. Sound recorded in camera with additional soundscape audio provided by Michael Edwards. As a result of the seeing the film at the festival, we have collaborated with Dr Carlo Pirozzi who has managed to include it in the launch events of his new book, Paolozzi at Large in Edinburgh (Luath Press), co-written and edited by former Scottish Makar Christine De Luca, alongside the fantastic artistic work by RSA members at the Royal Scottish Academy exhibition, Conversations with Paolozzi which runs until the 28th of October. The official launch of the book will be at Blackwell’s in Edinburgh on the 31st of October 6.30-8pm, and I’m delighted to say that Carlo has chosen my image as the front cover of the book!
